Bengals have no intention of releasing LB Vontaze Burfict

The Cincinnati Bengals might very well decide at some point that former Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict is not worth the headache.

Already seen as one of the dirtier players in the NFL, Burfict will start his third consecutive season under suspension. Only this time, he’s banned four games for violating the league’s policy against performance enhancing drugs.

If the Bills use that bolstered draft capital to obtain their next franchise quarterback, they could be better in 2018 than when they finally ended the longest playoff drought in football last season. But we can evaluate the Bills only for what they’ve done, and it’s hard to feel too bullish about a team that features AJ McCarron in the top spot on the quarterback depth chart.

Despite finally getting back to the playoffs last season, the Bills ranked 21st in the NFL inDVOA—and that was with the departed Tyrod Taylor playing the most valuable role on the team, according toPro Football Reference. Now Taylor, Preston Brown and E.J. Gaines are gone, and the Bills are overpaying StarLotulelei and Trent Murphy on the defensive side of the ball.

Barring a shockingly strong 2018 season from (fill in the blank) at quarterback, the Bills look like they’ll win between six and nine games for the eighth consecutive year. Call it football purgatory.

This all but ensures Lynch will be part of the Raiders in 2018, despite some talk this offseason that he could be let go.

While weather forecasters are wrong almost as often as mock drafters, it does appear there’s a decent chance it’ll be raining when Darnold takes the field for his workout on Wednesday. Yet ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported he’ll throw regardless of precipitation.

That being the case, Jackson, Dorsey and other executives representing teams that could draft Darnold might consider performing rain dances Wednesday morning. Because football is messy, and I think a lot of folks would be interested in seeing Darnold throw in less-than-perfect conditions.
